More Charged Over Bankstown Woman Thi Kim Tran’s Kidnap and Murder
More people have been charged in relation to the alleged kidnapping and murder of a Bankstown woman early last year, who police believe was targeted due to her husband’s links with organised crime.
Thi Kim Tran was abducted from her home in April last year, with her 8-year-old son also allegedly assaulted with a baseball bat. A 15-year-old boy was also at the scene at the time and taken to hospital.
Later that evening at about 11:30pm, the 45-year-old’s remains were found in a burnt-out car in Beverley Hills, around 6km away from her home.
Previous inquiries have established Tran and her children were likely targeted as a result of her partner’s involvement with an Organised Criminal Network based in Victoria.
Police say on the night of the kidnapping, members of a second “crew” waited at a rural property in Victoria for Tran’s husband, with the intention of killing him. When he failed to appear, Sydney-based offenders allegedly kidnapped Tran in an attempt to lure the husband out.
Between December 2025 to March 2026, five men aged between 18 and 30 were arrested and charged with murder, conspiring and agreeing to murder and participating in a criminal group.
Four people have previously been charged and remain before the courts.
At the time, Superintendent Joe Doueihi described the level of violence against innocent family members as “rare and unprecedented,”, stating that the actions of the men showed a “clear disregard for human life”.
“These offences are clearly targeted offences … against innocent people,” he told media in April.
Superintendent Doueihi also said that organised crime groups were “breaking their own code of conduct” by targeting innocent women and children.
“It’s something we at the NSW Police Force will not tolerate and we will throw every resource we have available to solve this crime.”
NSW Police have claimed Tran and her two children “had no knowledge” of her husband’s alleged involvement with the group.
