Trans Lawyer Cassy Judy To Launch New Single In Kings Cross

Sydney’s Cassy Judy is a proud transgender woman, criminal lawyer, community activist and alt-folk musician who has been releasing songs from her forthcoming Seven Ways EP on her own label Queer Worm Records. Her next single, When The World Was Flat is set for a special hometown launch show to celebrate at the iconic El Rocco Room in Kings Cross on January 20.

Written from the perspective of an older person at the end of their life, When the World Was Flat yearns for a simpler world without smart phones and ATMs. It’s a melancholic stroll down memory lane reminding us what matters at the end of life… Not our possessions but the people around us that we want near to us and of course, a pet dog, Oscar.

“I’m a soft, sweet and sentimental person,” says Cassy, “I often wander around the streets of Botany and remember how life was in the 80s and the factories and horse stables. The stables are gone, converted into apartments but the horse trough is still there. A reminder of simpler times with the corner store and the local pool.”

Botany born and bred, Cassy ambled the streets of her suburb during lockdown which prompted her to film scenes for the offical music video in her own neighbourhood at Cape Banks, Kamay Botany Bay National Park, Botany Boat Ramp and Roger’s Shoe Repairs.

“Roger’s shop is a reminder of those simpler times, before mega shopping malls and traffic snarls,” says Cassy. “Roger always greets me with a smile and tells me how beautiful I am. It’s hardly purgatory.”

Cassy Judy is a fixture of the Sydney Queer performance scene and works to increase the visibility of Trans and Gender Diverse people including coordinating the 2021 Trans Girlz Calendar and the 2019 Trans & Gender Diverse photoshoot, showcasing Trans Visibility and raising funds for ACON. She also gained national media attention protesting the exclusion of Trans Women from the Coogee Women’s Pool.
