A man has been charged following an alleged random act of stabbing in Sydney’s east.

Due in court today, Sunday, June 11, 19-year-old Trekieye Williams was apprehended after attacking a fellow passenger on a bus in Darlinghurst. He is to be charged with wounding a person with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.

“Not Known To Him”

New South Wales Police describes the situation in a media release, noting the timing of the incident, as well as the distinct lack of prior relationship between the pair.

“Emergency services were called to Flinders Street, near South Dowling Street, about 12.40 pm yesterday (Saturday 10 June 2023), following reports a bus passenger had been stabbed,’ they state.

The report alleges that a “34-year-old man was sitting on the bus when he was stabbed by another passenger – not known to him – who then left the scene on foot.”

The 34-year-old man was treated on-site by NSW Ambulance paramedics, before being taken to nearby St. Vincent’s Hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries to his left hand, arm, and chin.

Meanwhile, police scoured the area and soon located Williams in Surry Hills’ Prince Alfred Park at 1:30 pm, an hour later. He was then taken to Surry Hills Police Station, where charges were given.,

Additional Charges

In addition to the afternoon incident, NSW Police report that Williams also faces additional charges based on another alleged incident that occurred earlier the same day.

It is alleged that the 19-year-old was responsible for a previous event that had transpired in a home in Flood Street, Bondi, wherein Williams supposedly assaulted and robbed a different 34-year-old man.

For this, officers laid an additional six charges against Williams, being:

  • “Use, Teetc offensive weapon with intent to commit an indictable offense”

  • “Aggravated robbery”

  • “Common assault, and”

  • “Destroy or damage property (three counts)”

Refused bail, the man is to appear at Parramatta Bail Court for ongoing trial.
