YWCA’s Encore to cancer survivors

For more than 25 years over 6000 Australian women have turned to the YWCA’s Encore program to rebuild their fitness after recovering from breast cancer. YMCA-run Cook and Phillip Park Aquatic and Fitness Centre is again teaming up with the YWCA to re-launch the free eight-week program, offered to any woman who has had breast cancer at any stage of her life.

The program combines healthy lifestyle information with gentle exercises designed to increase mobility and flexibility in the upper body, which is affected by the surgery.

The YMCA has a strong history of committing itself to aid vulnerable community members. Cook and Phillip Park Aquatic and Fitness Centre runs several aquatic and other fitness activities for people in various stages in life, including infants, seniors and even those recovering from sports injuries.

A new program called Encore Extra has recently commenced on Tuesday evenings for women who have completed the Encore program and want to start more energetic aqua classes within the supportive environment Encore provides. For more details see www.ywcaencore.org,au
