Wool art wraps up Kings Cross

After weeks of knit-ins involving over 150 volunteers, Kings Cross is now clothed in wool. Trees in Fitzroy Gardens, public art in front of the police station, bike parking rings, street poles and even a whole park bench are decorated with knitted shapes. It’s not just random, either – much of the wool graffiti was tailored for its host object.

“About 60 per cent of the pieces were targeted,” said Michelle McCosker, who along with Alasdair Nicol curated the event, one of Sydney’s Art and About events.

At the official opening on Saturday, people visiting the markets were obviously delighted with the quirky placement and design of many pieces. Cameras clicked busily as a Dixieland band introduced Deputy Lord Mayor Phillip Black, who officiated.
