Woman faces court accused of killing father

A Glebe woman faced court in Newtown on Monday charged with shooting her father multiple times in the head and body.

Forty three-year-old Shamin Anne Fernando appeared in Newtown Local Court charged with the murder of 70-year-old Vincent Fernando in the inner Sydney suburb of Glebe yesterday.

The shooting occurred at about 3.15pm Sunday afternoon at an apartment, listed by court documents as the accused’, on Victoria Road in Glebe.

Police said Mr Fernando died at the scene from numerous gunshot wounds to his head and body.

Legal Aid Commission solicitor Robyn Fraser did not seek bail but asked Fernando receive attention for mental health issues and diabetes while in custody.

The matter was adjourned by Magistrate Michael Price and will be heard at Sydney’s Central Local Court on October 26.

Emotional family members attending court declined to speak to the press but did confirm the deceased was Fernando’s father.
