WHAT WE DID ON OUR HOLIDAY

WHAT WE DID ON OUR HOLIDAY

Despite having a star studded adult cast it’s the kids that steal the show in Andy Hamilton and Guy Jenkins new Film, What We Did On Our Holiday.

David Tennant (Doctor Who) and Rosamund Pike  (Gone Girl) play Doug and Abi a couple who along with their three children are traveling to the Scottish Highlands for Doug’s father’s 70th Birthday. However, what the extended family doesn’t know is that Doug and Abi have recently separated and rather than upset the extended family, they decide to pretend that everyone is as happy as ever.  As expected things don’t go as planned.

Like great British farces before it, this is a film that shines due to its ensemble of colourful characters. While there is a central plot, each of the characters face challenges and learn a little about themselves in the process.

Billy Connelly is hilarious as Doug’s father and while Rosamund Pike is again having marriage problems like she did in 2014’s Gone Girl, it’s nice to see that they aren’t as severe or psychotic.

The stars are Doug and Abi’s three charismatic children who despite dealing with many adult issues throughout the film remind the audience that sometimes it’s better to view life through a child’s eyes and not to take it so seriously.

What We Did On Our Holiday is a hilarious and honest film investigating domestic relationships and leaves the audience questioning what’s really worth valuing in life.
