Weight loss tips from former Mr Universe

A man who has shared the limelight with Arnold Schwarznenegger, former Mr Universe John Terilli will be running a weight loss seminar this August at Broadway Gym.

The two-time winner of the Mr Universe title – the most recent being the Professional title won in 1994 – MrTerilli has shared the stage with his idol Mr Schwarzenegger who is also a former winner of the professional Mr
Universe title.

Mr Terilli said: “I actually do know Arnold. I’ve competed in a contest that he runs in the United States. He’s interviewed me, and in Sydney, his last contest at the Opera House where he won his last title … I actually won the same night, on the same stage, the Australian title, for the best body builder in this country… That was another surreal experience for
me because he is my idol. That’s the person who I look up to.”

Mr Terilli said competing in the Mr Universe contest was surreal. “For me I
spent whole years going for it, so you’re up there, and everything that you’ve ever been worth is all put on the line and in that one particular instance … The last contest for me felt like an awake dream state,” he said.

Mr Terilli, the owner of Broadway Gym, still holds the record for being the youngest person to win the state title at 17, at his first contest. He hopes to bust a few myths in the weight loss industry through his seminar.

“There are a lot of myths involving the weight loss industry,” he said. “And all you have to do is just look at what’s on offer out there. At any time there are six or seven fad diets. And that’s exactly what they are, fad diets… What I am going to present to people is a method that’s actually not just a method of losing body fat, but there’s a maintenance method.

“I’m also going to talk about how much exercise you should be doing, the mental aspects, the psychological aspects of weight loss which are very important.”

Tickets are $20 for non-members. The seminar will be held on the August 25.

“For me and all my staff, your results are our passion,” Mr Terilli said.
