Waterloo Youth center gets a Federal facelift.

The Waterloo Youth Services Facility is set for some makeover magic, thanks to a $2 million Federal Government grant for redevelopment.

“The Rudd Government’s contribution will provide an upgraded and vastly improved facility for young people in the inner city,” said Lord Mayor Clover Moore.

The improved youth center is expected to help South Sydney Youth Services deliver more educational workshops, counselling and medical services, and cultural activities.

The new centre will incorporate a range of ecologically sustainable design principles including a green roof, water reuse, sustainable and recycled materials and passive cooling, in line with Council’s recent promise to halve greenhouse gas emissions from its buildings by 2030.

Another $660,000 Federal Grant to the City will be used to help reach the targets. It will be invested in solar hot water, energy efficient lighting upgrades, after-hours lighting systems, waterless urinals, rainwater tanks, rainwater harvesting, water flow restrictions on taps and showers, window tinting, sun-shading and sub-metering of electricity, gas and water.
