WAR HORSE

When you watch a movie directed by Steven Spielberg, 90% of the time you pretty much know what you’re in for, and the same can be said for his latest effort War Horse, which follows an endearing animal lead whose story is deftly woven amongst fascinating insights into the various groups of a world torn apart by the Great War. War Horse wants to suck you in emotionally, and for the better part of its epic story, it succeeds, it’s just that the journey to get to that point is rather predictable. It might not be Oscar worthy, but it’s classic Spielberg, so if you’re after a cinema experience reminiscent of yesteryear, this is the film for you. (AG) ***
