TWELVE FOOT NINJA – SILENT MACHINE
Far from ‘silent’, this debut album from Melbourne band Twelve Foot Ninja is a wild rollercoaster of musical genres. With two EPS and an impressive touring/ support resume, the band has produced a bold and brash genre-flipping album, contrasting an impressive array styles like reggae, electronica, funk and dub, all inserted to a bed of hard rock. First single Mother Sky is guilty of this, bracketing ear-shattering rock with verses of bopping reggae rhythms. However nothing quite prepares you for Coming for You, where a cheeky Latin guitar abruptly slips in after a skidding and screaming introduction, as if you have stepped straight from one room to another. However, once the genre-switching novelty wears, these shocking juxtapositions make for a disjointed choppy sound.
