Five people have been treated by paramedics and two sent to hospital after a tram and a fire truck were involved in a collision just outside of Central Station. The tram and truck collided at 11:30am this morning on Eddy Avenue, causing significant traffic disruptions in the area.

Light rail services between Central and Circular Quay on the L2 Randwick Line and L3 Kingsford Line have been suspended.

A NSW Ambulance spokesperson said a 71-year-old woman who was riding on the tram sustained rib injuries and was taken to hospital to be treated. A Fire and Rescue Officer was also taken to hospital with minor injuries.

Fire truck heading to emergency call when incident occurred

Fire and Rescue NSW say the fire truck was responding to an emergency call on Dixon Street at the time of the crash. NSW Ambulance Inspector Ben Saywell said to the ABC that they are “thankful” no one was seriously injured in the crash.

“This occurred in a really busy part of the CBD with a lot of pedestrians, so we’re thankful that no one was seriously injured” Saywell said.

It has been estimated that the light rail will take approximately six hours to be removed from the crash sight, as Transport for NSW issued a statement urging commuters to avoid the area and seek other modes of transport.
