TIMBER!

Bluegrass music, beautiful French people and most importantly, beards, will be featuring in the production Timber! at the Sydney Festival. We caught up with lead acrobat, Antoine Carabinier.

Timber! has been travelling internationally. Are you excited to perform in Sydney as part of the Sydney Festival?

Yes of course. It’s a great festival with so many International shows. For us it’s going to be fantastic to present the culture of Québec traditions in such a big festival.

What makes this production different from the other aerobatics productions?

We are using all the instruments that lumberjacks were using back in the day and we use our acrobatic skills to do circus with them. Everything that we use in that show is real. We juggle with sharp axes, jump over big saws, do Russian Bar with a real tree. We don’t cheat!

Why is this important to you?

We are a real family; my dad, sister, brother-in-law and nephew are on stage with me.

My mom also is on tour with us doing behind-the-stage jobs. It’s really special to perform with your own family and close friends. The inspiration comes from the lumberjack but we grew up in the wood and created Timber! at my parents place so the show really means something special for all of us. (EV)
