THE WEEPIES – BE MY THRILL

THE WEEPIES – BE MY THRILL

Be My Thrill sounds like a contemporary version of the ABC songbook, all cheerful thoughts and primary colours. That The Weepies are duo Deb Talan and Steve Tannen who married and had a baby in 2007 the picture starts to become clearer – this is certainly one happy, happy family. Simple boy/girl harmonies and light but de-lightful pop abounds here. The title track chimes in full of smiles: ” Be my youth / My kissing booth / My little sweet tooth / My beauty and truth” – surely the theme for a new Friends if ever one is needed – it is little surprise that much of their previous work has been placed on TV shows and in a variety of commercials. You scan the lyrics and realise that they say very little very well: “I’ve been away a year and a day / You recognize love after the fact / You did what you did and that was that”. That said, this is just one of those albums that you will tap your toes and hum along to without even knowing it. Even if it bugs you to do so.
