THE WACKNESS

THE WACKNESS

New York City, 1994: Luke (Josh Peck) has just finished high school. Most of his classmates have left for the summer, but he’s listening to hip hop and braving Giuliani’s war on crime by selling dope from an ice cream cart. It’s tough being a teenager, but luckily he has a therapist, Dr Squires (Ben Kingsley), who is also one of his best clients. All he needs now is a girlfriend. The Wackness is a feel-good movie about growing up, falling in love and taking responsibility. It’s also about learning to see the good things in life ‘ the dopeness as opposed to the wackness. All the performances are good, but Kingsley is brilliant as the stoner therapist, and there’s also a nice cameo from Mary Kate Olsen. (Lachlan Jobbins)
