THE KING IS DEAD

THE KING IS DEAD

Max (Dan Wyllie) and Therese (Bojana Novakovic) have found their dream home with perfect neighbours on one side and ‘interesting’ ones on the other.  Interesting soon becomes horrifying when their nights are disturbed by amphetamine-fuelled screams, broken windows and offensive rap music. Rolf de Heer’s (Bad Boy Bubby, Ten Canoes) story about neighbourhood nightmares takes a peculiar turn when the couple pursue an unexpected solution to their problem. The film is well cast, Gary Waddell brings warmth to the character of King, the bad neighbour, while Wyllie and Novakovic perfectly portray the angst of the everyman when confronted with violence. The film’s understated humour ensures this modern tale of urban life is a charmer.
