THE INBETWEENERS

THE INBETWEENERS

For these four puerile, socially awkward boys who have just finished high school, a two-week vacation to Crete is a chance to go from misfits to men. Unfortunately things don’t look as good as they do on the brochure and a few mishaps involving fake tan, clippers and a lack of money make for a pretty cringe-worthy holiday. For lovers of the UK TV series, this is brilliant way of wrapping up and saying goodbye to the foul-mouthed boys we’ve warmed to over the years. Those who’ve watched the series can expect the same dick-jokes and immature one-upmanship between the friends as it picks up where Series Three ended, the same day in fact. But there’s also a heartwarming element that hasn’t been shown before and the boy’s tight friendship is portrayed without corniness. There is, of course, some unrealistic outcomes with the four girls they meet, but for all their misadventure, the film is a send-off with a positive message. For those not in the know, it’s best avoided, unless you want insight into a smelly boy’s locker room. (AH)  ****
