THE HUMAN RESOURCES MANAGER

THE HUMAN RESOURCES MANAGER

The Israeli-Palestinian conflict, suicide bombings, defamatory journalism, a disintegrating marriage and the logistics of transporting a body thousands of kilometres is heavy viewing, right? Luckily this film, based on the novel A Woman in Jerusalem, is injected with quirkiness and subtle humour. We follow the strange journey of a bakery HR Manager who attempts to save face when his company fails to realise a cleaning employee they’re paying is dead. It’s HR meets PR. Mark Ivanir plays the Human Resource Manager, looking like a Jewish Daniel Craig, he carries the film well, contrasted nicely with the obtuse journalist hot on his tail. It breathes life into the inhuman nature of big corporations and makes an unlikely road-trip film out of such dark material. (AH) ***
