One of the first festivals to hit Sydney’s streets is coming to Pyrmont this Saturday, come rain or shine. Harris Street will be temporarily closed to cars to make way for stalls, games, activities and live music.

The City of Sydney council, who are putting on the ongoing events, have promised various entertainers and performers for the festivals, including “drag queens, acoustic music, fire dancers and more”.

Local businesses are taking part in the event, putting on special deals and live music for the festival. The Quarrymans Hotel on Harris Street will be hosting a DJ and setting up bean bags in front of their venue.

Council say the area between Pyrmont Bridge Road and Union street will be closed to traffic between 9am and 11:30pm on Saturday October 8, to make way for the festival.

Previous festivals make way for this year’s events

The Sydney’s street festivals happening this year come after Sydney’s Mayor Lord Clover Moore hailed last year’s festivals a “huge success”.

“Our first series of Sydney Streets parties through the last summer was a huge success and well received by residents and businesses alike. We want to see more people get out and about and enjoy what their neighbourhoods have to offer” Moore said.

The festivals will be on a different main street in Sydney each weekend, allowing for a multitude of suburbs to see the festivities and invigorate businesses.

“The Sydney Streets series is an essential part of what we’re doing to support our local businesses,” the Mayor said.

Up-coming Sydney’s street festivals include:

  • Stanley Street, East Sydney- Saturday October 15

  • Redfern Street, Redfern- Saturday 22 October

  • Glebe Point Road, Glebe- Saturday 29 October

  • Darlinghurst Road / Macleay Street, Potts Point- Saturday 12 November
