THE FEARLESS VAMPIRE KILLERS – BATMANIA

Retro rock with a dash of rockabilly and a splash of surf. The Fearless Vampire Killers debut album Batmania is the Melbourne four pieces debut recording. With a similar idea of other Aussie retro rockers Jet or The Vines, but a clear difference in production. The Album is produced by Lars Stalfors who plays keyboards with El Paso Grammy Award winning act The Mars Volta. And Lars and the band have gone to considerable lengths to produce a sound that makes it feel like this was recorded in yesteryear. This proves frustrating at times in that you can hear that these tracks are clearly cracking songs with juicy guitar riffs that aren’t quiet given their due in the mix – like listening to The Strokes as opposed to seeing them live, where the power of the sound can knock you over. Surely The Fearless Vampire Killers could “kill” live. Highlight Tracks are Tell Me What You’re Trying To Say, For You & Me & The Monkey Song. Not too sure about the 1967 Roman Polanski film being the band name.
