THE ETTES – DO YOU WANT POWER

THE ETTES – DO YOU WANT POWER

Given the scarcity of parking in your average global city these days, its a wonder that there are so many garage bands around. With parking spaces worth a small apartments in rent, can you imagine how expensive it must be in New York city to be a garage band? Maybe that’s why these three New Yorkers moved to LA and then produced their third album in Nashville. Whatever it is in the waters in those three cities, it is agreeing with The Ettes, as Do You Want Power punches in all the right places. The drums kick, the guitars bite, and Coco’s vocals have the perfect mix of bubble-gum pop with punk attitude. Some fuzz has been sacrificed for the greater good, as they tighten and toughen up on previous efforts. The albums mid point, I’ll Be Your Lover (But I Can’t Be Your Baby), is also it’s high point as the band show restraint and power in equal measures. The answer to the question posed by the album title is a resound “yes” – and we have it in spades.
