THE DOORS – LIVE IN VANCOUVER 1970

What the world needs now is … another live Doors album. Or not. Okay this is only the second official live Doors recording after Absolutely Live, which was coincidentally released the year this album was recorded. Why then it has taken 40 years to see the light of day is anyone’s guess. In fact that year The Doors seemed to have recorded just about everything they did, because we have dozens of live releases that have come out one way or another over the years from 1970, making Live in Vancouver something of an anti-climax. The two-discs here allow the full breadth of a Doors live performance, with all the usual suspect up first; if there is value to be had it is on the second half of the performance as Love Me Two Times gets a run, along with a slew of blues covers that, whilst not astounding, provide at least a point of difference. The Stones’ old favorite Little Red Rooster gets a run, along with Money and Rock Me, and the appearance of genuine blues legend Albert King here does add significantly. The one tune that really makes it worthwhile is a seven minute stompin’ version of Who Do You Love, showcasing the best of the interplay between Kreiger’s nibble guitar picking, Manzarek’s driving organ and Densmore’s deft drumming.  It’s The Doors man!
