THE CURE – BESTIVAL 2011

THE CURE – BESTIVAL 2011

As the title would suggest this is The Cure 2011, harking back to The Cure of 25 years ago, recorded at Bestival. A live ‘best of’, showcasing the band as it is today, very happy to be true to an extensive back catalogue. Robert Smith still sounds strong of voice, and is a dexterous on the guitar if not more so. The hair is still teased, the lipstick smudged, its just the belly is a little larger. And with old cohorts Simon Gallup and Jason Cooper on board this is in part a nostalgia show, but one that still keeps pace due to the classic nature of the material. Yes it is great to hear Boys Don’t Cry, A Forrest, Play For Today, The Walk et al., and the sound is fairly unadorned from the live concert, raw and simple, like being there. But this is not a killer live album, it is not a band at their peak, rather one enjoying their past, and as such makes for a nice document, a wonderful reminder if you were there of a fun night with some old friends.
