THE BEDROOM PHILOSOPHER

Justin Heazlewood, aka The Bedroom Philosopher, has some good news for modern men.

“The old guard is on the way out,” he says.

Excited to be, “helping the men’s movement on”, the thinking woman’s folk-ruffian has his comedic eye firmly on post-metrosexual, modern day masculinity in his latest show, Head Sex and Bed Socks, now touring nationally. Audiences will find plenty to laugh about as The Bedroom Philosopher brings his unique blend of wit, madcap banter and improvisation to the stage once more, and showcases ‘manthems’ from his forthcoming album Man.

Following the success of his most recent album and show, Songs from the 86 Tram, Heazlewood has emerged from the, “shambles aesthetic” of his youth to become a more fearless, self-assured performer, and audiences should be ready for anything. (If the video for new single Tram Inspector is anything to go by, even pole dancing could be on the cards.) And without the backing of his band, The Awkwardstra, The Bedroom Philosopher is ready to wing it with his crowd like never before.

“Now I’ve entered this more obnoxious rock star phase where I’m actually quite confident, and at times quite antagonistic and aggressive on stage. If a gig is going well, I’ll make up a song – that’s always really exciting and it’s a lot more likely to happen when I’m playing solo.”

Figuring the US and UK are covered for entertainment, Heazlewood is proud to be telling Australian stories to Australian people, and his trademark cheeky, down-under style is guaranteed to hit the mark with local audiences. A stripped-back set means The Bedroom Philosopher has nowhere to hide, but that’s the way he likes it.

“I might do an interpretive dance,” he says. “Have some psychedelic pompoms… it could get real.”
