THE BASICS – KEEP YOUR FRIENDS CLOSE

In the time of Climate Change and increased awareness of the environment what is it with bands and their wanton waste! Sadly, like many before them, The Basics are guilty of such crimes. The year is 2007, The Basics are half-way through recording Keep Your Friends Close and they are rockin’. Then they decide to ditch a perfectly good half-an-album! While they may have their reasons, what waste! That album could feed the ears of the musically deprived. Think of the greenhouse gases. Nevertheless, the year is now 2009 and we have the all-new and improved Keep Your Friends Close. Who can say what the original sounded like. What we can say is that this tight and talented trio have punched out ten little pop nuggets of joy. Be it the well formed pop gem With This Ship, or the Finn-like Fear of Failure The Basics have certainly cemented their playing and writing. Although at times the multiple singers and songwriters challenges you to keep up, the band ethos holds it together, and when they let loose in the best Beatles-in-Hamburg kinda way on tracks like The No. 1 Cause of Death Amongst Youth Today they are one of the best pop-rock bands in the country.
