Established 3-level Chippendale pub The Abercrombie has announced it’s reopening with great news for Sydney’s party scene. Following massive renovations, the Sydney venue has been awarded a 24-hour license for special events- currently the only one handed out in the city.
The century old building has been closed for nearly a decade. It was bought by hospitality group Solotel, headed by Chef Matt Moran and Director Bruce Solomon, in 2019. In its former years, the Abercrombie, previously named the Australian, would house journalists and working professionals in a traditional pub venue.
Now that Solotel has revived the venue, the three levels have been transformed into separate spaces, with a mixture of beer gardens, cocktail bars, dance floors and even a cosy wine bay. An Italo-disco style lounge named ‘Casa Rosa’ will be housed in the top floor.
“New era” for Sydney nightlife
“We [are] very aware that there’s a generation of kids who haven’t been able to experience those heady clubbing days in Sydney, for various reasons,” Solotel CEO Elliot Solomon said about the opening.
“This new era for The Abercrombie is focused on helping to redefine the fabric of Sydney’s nightlife as well as provide a platform for the next generation of party crews and clubbers to create their own culture-defining experiences.”
Soloman said he is happy to welcome back Sydney dance and club music crew Purple Sneakers, who operated at the venue for years prior to its closure.
For it’s grand re-opening, The Abercrombie is throwing a Christmas mega-event beginning on December 23 at 5pm and ending at 5am on Christmas Day.
