The 2024 Razzie Awards…and the winner is…..
The winners (or losers?) of the 2024 Golden Raspberry Awards (or Razzies) have just been announced and there may be many readers of this publication who will be scratching their heads and asking, “What the hell are Razzie Awards?”
To put it simply, these are the awards which nobody in Hollywood wants to be nominated for, as they ‘honour’ the worst films, directors, screenwriters and performances by actors and actresses, voted by film buffs, journalists and critics.
These awards are tongue in cheek, definitely not to be taken seriously, and a lead up to the awards that matter, The Academy Awards.
Sylvester Stallone holds the record as the recipient of the most Razzies with 22 nominations and 10 wins, his highlight being the recipient of the award for Worst Actor of The Century Razzie Award, therefore for “for 99.5% of everything he has EVER done!”
There have been a couple of actors over the 44-year history of this awards presentation who have also been nominated for a Razzie and an Academy Award simultaneously.
Many of the nominated stars attend the awards presentation joining in on the fun and comically accepting their awards. No malice in intended by these awards.
This year, live action horror flick, Winnie The Pooh: Blood and Honey won all five awards it was nominated for: Worst Picture, Worst Director, Worst Screenplay, Worst Sequel and last but not least, Worst Screen Couple – Pooh and Piglet (blood-thirsty killers! lol!)
Four-time Oscar nominee Jon Voight won Worst Actor for his performance in Mercy. Sylvester Stallone proved once again that he’s expendable with his Razzie for Worst Supporting Actor in The Expendables 4, a movie which also scored the Worst Supporting Actress nod for Megan Fox. Megan also won the Worst Actress Award for Johnny and Clyde.
The Razzie Redeemer Award was won by Fran Drescher for, believe it or not, aiding in ending the actor’s strike after being the recipient of a past Razzie for Worst Actress!
Now that the fun is over and done with, all eyes will be on the all-important Academy Awards presentation tomorrow!
