Taronga Zoo on Tour

There will be plenty of smiling faces at St Vincent’s Hospital Childcare Centre next week, when Sydney’s Taronga Zoomobile visits with its unique collection of Australian fauna.

The Zoomobile provides an “up close and personal” look at some feathered and furry friends; from echidnas to diamond pythons, including a presentation from a fully qualified Education Officer.

“To give that kind of opportunity to the kids is really amazing,” said Zoo Education Officer Cyrelle Field.

“Most of the kids are so excited that they get to have a hands on experience with animals they usually only get to see on television or in books.”

Taronga’s Zoomobile has been taking a unique collection of Australian wildlife to visit school children in remote areas since the vehicle hit the road in 1986, and since the beginning of 2002 has expanded its services to include other community organisations.

“We understand that there are many people, schools and community groups who would love to visit the Zoo but simply cannot get there-whether because of disability, distance or economic circumstances,” said Zoo Education Office Caroline Tibbitts.

The Zoomobile will be visiting St Vincent’s Childcare Centre at 10am on April 7th.

For more information on the Zoomobile program or to have the Zoomobile visit your school or community organisation please call Education Officer, Caroline Tibbitts on (02) 9978 4739.
