Sydney Photography Competitions Seeking Artists of All Ages

Photographers of every age across Sydney are being invited to submit their work for consideration in one of the nation’s biggest photography competitions.
The City of Sydney is hosting its annual Australian Life contest, exhibiting photographs that capture a unique snapshot of life in our country.
Following a successful debut last year, the competition is also open to those aged 13 to 17.
“Last year’s competition showed us a global world reflected in Australian eyes,” said Lord Mayor of Sydney, Clover Moore.
“We saw Taylor Swift fans in Kardu Yek Diminin Country, Elvis impersonators playing rugby league in country NSW and wedding guests pausing their celebrations to watch the Matildas take on France in the Women’s World Cup.”
Out of the hundreds of entries expected, a panel of expert judges will select 20 images from photographers over 18, and 10 pictures from those aged 12 to 17.
The winning adult entry takes home a $10,000 cash prize while the under 18 winner receives $2,000 and an OM System camera pack worth around $2,500.
Kids also given a chance to get snappy
Australia’s youngest artists are also getting a opportunity to show the world from their point of view, with the Little Sydney Lives photography competition for children aged 5 to 12.
Now in its 15th year, the winner and runner up will both receive an OM System camera pack, worth around $1,300.
“The Little Sydney Lives competition is one of my favourite events as entrants really do give us a glimpse into creativity like no other,” said Clover Moore.
Massimo Morara Tabbò and Ruby Menzies were last year’s winners with their images Brother at Work and Bored in the Car.
The competitions are part of the City of Sydney’s year-round Art & About program of events and temporary art projects in unusual spaces throughout the city.
Entries for both competitions close at 11:59pm on April 2, with the shortlisted photographs on display in an outdoor exhibition at Circular Quay from 24 July to 17 August.
The winners will be announced at the opening event on 24 July.
