SYDNEY DESIGN 09

Cardboard chairs. Collaborative comic making. A toilet doily (the building, not the bum-seat). High-end sustainable solutions. Bespoke boots. Planet-saving graphics. The 13th Sydney Design Festival runs the gamut both in respect to design’s terminology and taste. Housed primarily at the Powerhouse Museum, you’ve got until August 16 to explore both. Project videos onto the museum’s wall alongside WA artist Jerrem Lynch and up your cool cache with local illustrators We Buy Your Kids at Play Late on Friday 7, dabble in some yarnbombing to be added to the Knitted Convenience project in Taylor’s Square on Saturday 8, pick up a soon-to-be-hot-on-Ebay designer item at the Fresh Blood markets on the 14th and 15th, delve into the fashion-leaning archive of photographer Bruno Benini … the list goes on. Don’t know how you’ll keep up? Start with picking up a coffee from the one-off, site-specific sustainable Eat Green Design restaurant. That should help.

Until Aug 16, Powerhouse Museum, 500 Harris St, Ultimo, prices vary, 9217 0222 or sydneydesign.com.au
