Swap till you drop

Swap till you drop

The City of Sydney and Planet Ark will kick off National Recycling Week with what will be the ultimate hoarder’s delight: a massive junk-swapping party.
The free event, which will be held in Martin Place, is open to anyone to swap three personal items such as books, CDs, clothes, DVDs, and bric-a-brac, in exchange for other peoples’ unwanted treasures.
“Recycling everything from clothing through to books or furniture is instrumental in helping to manage climate change by saving energy and water and by reducing carbon dioxide emissions,” said Planet Ark CEO Sean Barrett. “Getting a single cotton dress from a swap party rather than buying it at a shop, saves around 22,000 litres of water.”
And if these eco-friendly shoppers find themselves in a tussle over an item, a quick game of Scissor, Paper, Rock will decide who gets lucky.
The swap party will take place on Monday November 10, between 12.30-5pm at Martin Place.
