SURRY HILLS FESTIVAL

SURRY HILLS FESTIVAL

Most inner city residents will already be familiar with the annual Surry Hills Festival, now in its tenth year. Gourmet food is always a tasty feature and, this year, chefs will share their secrets with an emphasis on sustainable food. Market stalls will once more be filled with great vintage finds, pet wear and ethical products. The annual Dog Show Off and Air Guitar Competition are certain to remain highlights.

Local art and craftwork will be on show and creatives will find inspiration in Dramatic Intent, which provides rare opportunities to connect with theatre industry professionals, as well as the young designers featured on the Fashion Catwalk.

Families will also find plenty of entertainment. The Children’s Area includes jumping castles, an animal farm, and loads of activities and workshops, while the Rainbow Stage features everything from science shows to belly dancing.

Emerging musicians and DJs will play across six different stages. Features include Meem, with his unique take on funk-influenced electronica, the jam-based blues and roots of Chase The Sun, Deep Sea Arcade’s psychedelic folk, and singer-songwriter Emma Donovan – a member of the Stiff Gins, who will also be performing.

All this for a gold coin donation. Who could ask for more?

18 April. Prince Alfred Park, cnr. Cleveland and Chalmers Streets, Surry Hills. www.shnc.org/festival
