Strays – REVIEW

Strays – REVIEW

Talking canines feature favourably in holiday family friendly movies but be warned this movie is strictly for adult’s viewing pleasure!

From the producers of that foul-mouthed comedy Ted comes their latest cinematic offering Strays, an equally obnoxiously disgusting, yet highly entertaining and hilarious comedy surrounding a group of stray dogs.

Reggie is a border Terrier who has been faithful to his abusive owner Doug, a dope smoking loser. When Doug successfully abandons Reggie miles from home, Reggie connects with a group of homeless dogs and learns what it’s like to be a stray.

Reggie misses Doug and decides that he must return home to be a good dog for his master. So the long journey home commences for Reggie and his group of strays. The many adventures and misadventures which ensure along the way should provide non-stop laughter for audiences.

All Reggie ever hoped for from his master was to be called ‘a good boy’ but will he ultimately come to the realization that his master was the real problem in their relationship? Do stray dogs really want to be strays?

Strays starts off as a kids flick but it doesn’t take long for the obscene language to kick in. Alcohol and drug abuse, bawdy sexual references, coarse language, and ‘in your face’ scenes of canine’s excrement all compound to provide an alternate and enjoyably gross outing at the cinema.

The mood is dark and sinister at times with shady canine characters including hookers adding to the mix. A cast of Hollywood heavyweights lend their voices to the project, including Will Ferrell, Jamie Foxx, and Isla Fisher, whose seductive voice is cast as the Australian Shepherd.

Nothing sacred in a dog’s world is left untouched by these crude canines, but underneath this fun-filled comedy which is coated in silliness, lies a very important and poignant message; dogs want to be treated humanely and just want to be loved and appreciated.

Dog owners may look at their ‘man’s best friend’ in a different light after watching Strays. They may ask, what are these canines actually thinking about as they quietly sit on the sofa looking straight at us?
