Spend winter nights with a choir
By Lalrohlui
Sydney Chamber Choir, renowned for its captivating choral performances, is set to enthral audiences once again with their latest musical event, Fireside.
Building on the success of last year’s Winter Nights, the Sydney Chamber Choir returns to the picturesque The Neilson at Walsh Bay. The performances will transport the audience to a world of musical delights, keeping them warm amidst the winter’s chill.
Adding to the excitement, the Sydney Chamber Choir is delighted to welcome back Naomi Crellin, who will co-direct the event alongside Artistic Director Sam Allchurch.
An integral part of the Sydney Chamber Choir, Naomi Crellin brings her immense talent and expertise to the co-directorship of Fireside. With a strong background in classical, jazz, and contemporary voice, she has played a pivotal role in the choir’s repertoire through her writing and arranging.
She and the choir will be joined by a jazz trio led by the renowned Kevin Hunt, creating a fusion of choral and jazz music. The program will showcase Crellin’s exceptional arrangements of popular favourites like “La vie en rose,” “Norwegian Wood,” and “It’s Oh So Quiet,” the latter originally performed by Icelandic pop icon Björk.
The program features a diverse range of musical pieces, including René Clausen’s soul-stirring “Tonight Eternity Alone,” Jan Sandström’s lush double-choir setting of “Lo, how a rose e’er blooming,” and Ruth Moody’s beloved anthem “One Voice” in a glorious a cappella arrangement.
With a legacy dating back to 1975, the Sydney Chamber Choir has garnered a reputation as one of Australia’s leading vocal ensembles. The choir’s commitment to excellence and their ability to seamlessly navigate between classical and contemporary compositions have earned them critical acclaim and a dedicated following.
The Neilson is the ACO Pier 2/3’ s largest performance space and seats up to 275 people, with a flexible design engineered for classical, acoustic and amplified music.
