SOLA ROSA – GET IT TOGETHER

SOLA ROSA – GET IT TOGETHER

It could be subliminal but this album has the soothing effect of raking sand on an empty beach. With a few rocks caught up in the wheels. That would be the occasional sharpish voice of the German-based poet-come-singer, Baika. It’s a Zen garden for the mind that will have you drifting off in no time. Only to be brought back to reality as the smooth beats turn into jagged hip-hop. These guys from New Zealand are hard to categorise, they fall into too many categories: reggae, soul, funk, jazz, hip hop just to name a few. The addition of Wellington songstress, Iva Lamkum is a stunning touch, she has a rich voice you want to eat with a spoon.  I expect a solo album from her to take us by storm soon. Overall Sola Rosa have a truly creative album with some powerful words and some even more powerful sounds to lift your weariness on a hot day. Give it a chance; it’s not just another cool, café album.
