When Jamal Malik appears on Who Wants To Be A Millionaire and answers every question correctly, he is arrested and interrogated for cheating. To explain how he obtained the answers, he tells his life story: surviving as an orphan in the slums of Mumbai with Salim, his wayward brother and Latika, his true love.
This film is flawless. Director Danny Boyle has created a gripping story about a boy finding his destiny in a place where he shouldn’t have one. Without being moralistic, he also shows us the underbelly of India and reveals the frightening realities of poverty.
But what really makes this movie special is its heart. Ultimately, it has a message of hope that will remain with you long after the credits have rolled.
