Sheep, Dog & Wolf — Egospect

Sheep, Dog & Wolf — Egospect

I can’t decide whether Daniel McBride is a boy genius from New Zealand or an annoying little shit whose sole purpose in life is to make me feel inadequate. Or both. Not yet 20, he has already picked up some gongs in his home country.

McBride seems to do everything here: sing; write; play guitars, brass, woodwind; produce the damn thing in his bedroom. The title of his venture suggests he’s got all angles covered.

He’s been compared to Bon Iver and Sufjan Stevens. This album, now available in Australia, is intriguing and intricate and sounds like Grizzly Bear to me. The arrangements are complex and layered. One to watch.
