SCREEN LIVE’S BRILLIANT JOURNEYS

SCREEN LIVE’S BRILLIANT JOURNEYS

The final instalment of the Sydney Opera House’s Screen Live Series for 2010 promises to be a wonderfully offbeat mash-up of kaleidoscopic art film visuals and contemporary music aesthetics, which include electronica and noise-rock. Curated by Brisbane’s avant-garde film collective Otherfilm – and featuring a line-up of local experimental film makers and indie musicians – Screen Live 6# Brilliant Journeys is a unique collaborative project that employs abstraction and surrealism to transmute and evolve the meaning of live film and sound performances. Previously, the Screen Live series provided an enthralling retrospective of the early silent film era, with guest musicians rescoring key cinematic classics with stirring, often brash soundtracks that were designed to resonate with modern audiences. Brilliant Journeys may shake-up this formula, but audiences are sure to appreciate further insights into the unique relationship between sound and vision. The program includes the following shorts: Green Canopy (1994), Char Hit Frames (1986), Studies in Image (De)Generation (1975), Floterian – Hand Printing from a Film History (1981), Rainbow Way (1977) and Fe (1973). Live musical accompaniment will be provided by Joel Stern, Robin Fox, Holy Balm and New Zealand’s Garbage & The Flowers.
