Same-sex adoption Bill reveals true colours
There’s nothing like a conscience vote to reveal the true colours of politicians. Clover Moore’s Same-Sex Adoption Bill did just that, splitting the vote along ideological rather than party lines. The Bill was passed 68-59.
In the natural order of things, you might expect more Ayes on the Labor/Greens side and Noes on the Coalition/right-wing side, reflecting a progressive/conservative divide. And so it was – by a small margin – making the exceptions all the more interesting.
Among the 23 Labor members voting against the Bill were: Virginia Judge, Tony Kelly, Eddie Obeid, Joe Tripodi, Richard Amery, Phil Costa, Tony Stewart and Paul Gibson.
Among the 20 Coalition members voting for the Bill were: Peter Debnam, Pru Goward, Barry O’Farrell, Brad Hazzard, Jillian Skinner, Catherine Cusack and John Ajaka.
