Salvos looking for a hand for annual appeal
The Salvation Army is hoping to raise over $8 million during their annual Red Shield Appeal later this month.
To maintain services over the year ahead, spokesman Gary Masters said the Salvos are looking for volunteers to give them a hand with their Doorknock appeal over the weekend of May 24 and 25.
Last year the Salvation Army assisted over one million Australians including homeless people of all ages seeking shelter and assistance.
The overall Red Shield Appeal, which includes a business appeal and direct mail campaign, has a national target of $68 million.
‘Our aim this year is to mobilise over 100,000 collectors and we hope to knock on as many doors as possible,’ Mr Masters said.
‘It only involves about two to three hours and we are encouraging people to form teams of four with a driver. Volunteers could make it a social event with a barbecue afterwards. It is very rewarding and you will be helping to assist those less fortunate in pour community.’
‘By supporting others we are investing in our country’s future, and remember, we’re all in this together,’ Mr Masters said.
People wishing to volunteer for the door knock or donate to the appeal can call the Salvos on 137258 or visit www.salvos.org.au. Donations can be made at any Westpac branch.
