“Lots of people love reggae. It’s universal,” says Michael Foley of Foreigndub. “It’s a sound that originated from Jamaica but has been adopted and adapted by countries all around the world to relate to people and their circumstances. It’s conscious music.”

Foreigndub have been cranking out quality reggae, dub and electronic events in Sydney and around Australia for over 10 years. Events such as D&BBQ (Sydney’s original drum ‘n’ bass barbecue) and the Dubshack at Peats Ridge Festival have featured local and international acts rocking dance floors with big bassy one drops, trademark guitar skanking and blissful reggae toasting.

The Foreigndub collective now turn their efforts towards a mini-festival that celebrates Jamaica’s biggest export (reggae music, not the other thing) and the diversity of its appreciative listeners. The Reggae Carnival Market Day features music from local Sydney artists and producers such as Judgement, Kakhand, Ibojah and Mr Brown (Radio Skidrow), Basslines and a “selecta” DJ set from Tony Hughes of the legendary Australian reggae band Kingtide.

“It’ll be a family fun day, with market stalls, organic food and kids activities like jumping castles, face painting and magicians. We’re striving for a real community vibe and we want to make everyone feel welcome.”
