Reclaiming the ‘swamp that was’

From those dressed in red, representing the ridges of Glebe, to the blue-clad people of Pyrmont, ‘ and not to forget the dogs ‘ the annual Wentworth Park Games Day attracted hundreds of people keen to take part in the fun and fare to celebrate the popular park’s proud history.
All ages joined in a less-traditional wine glass race (a more upmarket form of the old egg-and-spoon); took part in a diabolic obstacle course; tried their feet at Beckham Bending and their arms at gum boot, coit, basketball and boules throwing ‘ leaving the southern end of the park basking in the sun creating a delightful village atmosphere. ‘After ten messy heats of the Any Other Hound Dog races, dog lovers and dog owners alike awaited the big race for the Wenty Park Mongrel Cup ‘ which had to be run twice on account of the sprinklers proving too much of a distraction. But with the final final race, one Milo proved too good and took home the huge Cup for 2008.
After several games of Oz-Tag, soccer, rugby league, and the ultimate tug-o-war between the ridges, it was Glebe who took home the GUP (Glebe, Pyrmont, Ultimo) Cup, and will stand in all its glory in the Glebe Town Hall.
