Randwick City Council Elects Former GP Clare Willington As Mayor
Following an Extraordinary Meeting, Randwick’s City Council has elected Greens Councillor Clare Willington as Mayor, and colleague Masoomeh Asgari as deputy mayor. Mayor Willington takes over from Councillor Dylan Parker, who served his two-year term from 2024 to 2026.
“It is a great privilege to be elected Mayor of Randwick City and I thank my fellow Councillors for their confidence and support,” said Willington.
“I would also like to acknowledge the work and excellent leadership of the outgoing Mayor Dylan Parker. Randwick City is a remarkable place and our council is in a strong position.”
About Mayor Willington
According to Willington, her term will be defined by honouring Randwick’s natural environment, diverse communities, and strong sense of belonging.
“As Mayor, I want to help protect what makes our city special by supporting climate action, caring for our local environment and biodiversity, and ensuring future generations inherit a healthy, resilient and thriving Randwick,” said Willington.
“I want to celebrate the diversity that makes Randwick City such a vibrant place to live and ensure everyone feels welcome, included and connected to their community. By listening to our community and working together, we can continue building a city that is caring, creative and inclusive.”
Willington, a former general practitioner and Clovelly resident for 15 years, has stated her priorities will include supporting reconciliation and First Nations knowledge sharing, encouraging community participation, celebrating arts and culture, and fostering kindness and belonging across the city.
Mayor Willington was first elected to council in 2024, and was elected as deputy mayor in 2025.
About Outgoing Mayor Parker
Outgoing mayor, Dylan Parker, released a farewell statement, thanking councillors and the community for all they were able to complete.
“Having now completed my two-year mayoral term, in line with longstanding past practice of Randwick Council and by agreement, I will not be standing for re-election next week,” wrote Parker.
“I will, however, continue serving our community as a Randwick City Councillor. As the 2024-26 mayoral term comes to an end, I simply want to say thank you. Thank you for your trust, support and engagement. It has been a privilege to represent our community and work alongside you to make our area an even better place to live.”
Parker specifically commemorated a number of community events launched under his tenure, including Maroubra Sound Waves, Sea Place on Country, and Culture Vibes. He also applauded smaller developments, such as new playgrounds, upgraded streetscapes, and new sporting facilities.
Councillor Parker was first elected as mayor in 2021, and at the time was the youngest serving mayor in NSW.
