Raise the flag

Sydney’s girl guides joined hundreds of girls and young women around the world participating in the ‘Fly the Flag’ event this Sunday on the tenth hour of the tenth day of the tenth month for 2010.

Sydney’s chapter of Guides met at Centennial Park where they celebrated their participation in an event that was shared with others internationally.

Local guide unit leader Alice Anderson said the event was to “celebrate being part of the World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts – an international movement with over 10 million members in 145 countries.”

“As an organisation, we are committed to giving girls and young women a voice at a local, national and global level to build the leaders of tomorrow,” she said.

“Empowering girls and young women to gain leadership and life skills and to become community leaders will continue to be our focus and as we ‘Fly the Flag’, each and every one of Australia’s 30,000 Guides will be proudly celebrating our rich past and our promising future.”
