Rain shall not weary them
Despite regular showers, this year’s Winter Festival was packed with people enjoying a small taste of Europe in the Antipodes.
Centrepiece was the ice rink which drew the skate crowd from all over. The three young ladies in the foreground, pictured, learned their chops at Canterbury rink and showed the wobbly beginners how it was done.
A feast of food and drink warmed hearts as people grazed on such temptations as gluhvein in a souvenir china mug, roasted chestnuts, handmade gingerbread, giant German pretzels, choc-dipped strawberries, Swiss cheese raclette with potatoes, gherkins and pearl onions, and a wide selection of cuisines from all over the world.
