Rain no dampener on Pyrmont Park development

Construction of a $25 million park at the former Water Police site remains on track, despite a number of rainy days during Sydney’s wettest April in 77 years.
The new Pyrmont Park is expected to be completed in February next year, according to planners, adding to the foreshore walk from Glebe to the CBD.
The park will now include a kiosk, canopy and public facilities, after a development application (DA) was approved by the City of Sydney at the last Council meeting.
President of the Friends of Pyrmont Point, Drew Morrow, said his community group were heavily involved in the consultation process and are excited about the park.
‘It going to be an iconic park that Sydney can be really proud of,’ he said. ‘I think it’s going to be a real landmark around Sydney.’
Mr Morrow’s group will continue to track developments through monthly meetings with the Project Manager.
Charles Perry from Pyrmont Progress was one of a number of other locals taken to the site by City of Sydney staff to inspect its progress.
‘We’re strong supporters of the park as we are anything that gives the local community greater open space,’ Mr Perry said.
‘What you’ve got in Pyrmont and Ultimo is well over 90% of the population in high density living. This goes along way to providing green space not just to the locals but because it’s a foreshore park: it’s got significance to Sydney as a whole.’
Once finished, the 1.8 hectares of foreshore park will include new community facilities such as a children’s playground, toilets and a kiosk.
According to Council the park has been specifically designed to reduce environmental impact and will include a shoreline promenade connecting to Harris Street.
