Racist flyer hits the inner-city

An anti-immigration flyer has been dropped in some letterboxes in the inner-city.

The text of the flyer, which has been letterboxed in Glebe, says ‘500,000 new immigrants, every Australian Election … the Greens won’t do anything about it, will you?’

City of Sydney Greens councillor Chris Harris called on Australians to reject the kind of racism the flyer represented.

“We reject this [flyer] as racist and myopic,” he said.

“Most of our population is built on immigration going back to 1788 … with the exception of our indigenous population … We are a country of immigrants and the sooner we learn to live with each other the better.”

Labor councillor Meredith Burgmann, a Glebe resident, said she was disgusted and horrified to learn of the flyer.

“It’s just racist … Glebe’s better than that,” she said. “The Labor party has always supported
