Puppets in town hall
Sydney’s Italian community is set to turn out in force for ‘International Commedia dell’Arte Day’, a celebration of the Italian tradition of puppet and mask theatre which represents one of the forerunners of modern irreverent comedy. Australia’s leading exponent of the art, Dennis Murphy, will adapt his 16th-century street theatre to give audiences “a taste of its intensity and excitement”.
Taking place over two days (February 25-26) at Leichhardt Town Hall, the program includes performances for primary school students, workshops, a mask exhibition and performances, including a musical, the ‘Gran Finale Extravaganza’, on Saturday evening.
