Protectionist Party racist?

Leichhardt Council Protectionist Party candidate Nicholas Folkes is stirring controversy in the precinct, arguing the area needs to become ‘Sharia Free’.

While not receiving any support from his political adversaries, Mr Folkes defended his stance as a staunch critic of multiculturalism.

“It is time for Australians to stand up and recliam our nation,” he said. “Sharia Law is inseparable from Islam, which are both incompatible with our way of life.

“Tolerance is a two-way street, so we should not accommodate intolerant people calling for an archaic and backward legal and cultural code to be accepted in Australia.”

The Protectionist Party was created to defend Australia’s identity, heritage and freedom.

However, Mr Folkes admits his latest policies have received mixed feedback.

“Many locals have been excited to receive my message, but there have also been others who have been quite hostile. The hostility has come from narrow minded leftists who are mentally deranged. How could any sane person oppose my position to call for a principled declaration against Sharia Law?”

Leichhardt Liberal Councillor Gordon Weiss said the ‘Sharia Free Zone’ policy will be unsuccessful.

“Australia is a diverse and tolerant society,” he said. “Cultural practices that violate Australian Law are already dealt with by our Courts. Cultural practices that do not violate Australian Law are tolerated and in many cases welcomed.

“I would not have supported the creation of a ‘Sharia Free Zone’ had the question come in front of Leichhardt Council. In fact, I would have spoken out strongly against such a notion.”

Mr Folkes has denied accusations of racism on his part.

“For too long the dirty doctrine of political correctness has been used to silence the opposition,” he said. “I aim to challenge political correctness and I refuse to be quietened by feeble minds who are afraid of the truth. We need to discuss matters of race, culture and religion publicly without fear of vilification laws and intimidation.”

Mr Folkes will contest the local ward of Rozelle/Lilyfield at Saturday’s elections.

“I oppose multiculturalism; it is a destructive policy designed to destroy Australia’s social and cultural cohesion. The failed policy has only brought chaos to Australia and all western nations. When people migrate to Australia they should accept our cultural ways, respect our laws, pay taxes and assimilate into the Australian community.”
