PRIMAVERA 2012

PRIMAVERA 2012

Primavera is the Museum of Contemporary Art’s annual exhibition of Australian artists aged 35 years and under. This year the show features works from artists around the country using media as diverse as drawing, photography and film.

Seven artists, Dion Beasley, Benjamin Forster, Anastasia Klose, Todd McMillan, Kate Mitchell, Teho Ropeyan and Justine Varga are represented this year. The pieces range from Varga’s pastel and light-infused photographs to Beasley’s witty and memorable drawings of camp dogs. Ropeyan’s crocodile themed artworks contrast with Forster’s computer driven print works and Mitchell’s provocative creations. McMillan’s preoccupation with the sea and movement is shown with the film Albatross, whilst Anastasia Klose will re-enact a period of unemployment by living in a small space in the gallery during the museum opening hours.

A diverse and inspiring collection, Primavera proves that Australian art is living and growing in exciting directions. (LR)
